Family Photo Friday - Reinspired

So, the apartment is practically in shambles thanks to a little elf that likes to move things all.the.time and it's been the week from hell, BUT, look what I picked up when I was back in WY :-)

These two fabulous albums have an eclectic mix of Old Country photos as well as some pics from more recent cousins etc. The books had a slip of paper marked "Ron's Book" in them so I guess I should return them to dad at some point. I think maybe the paper was in a comic book and he slipped it into these gorgeous albums to keep me away :-) Photos in albums, even as poorly and oddly put together as these are, are far less intimidating to me than the boxes and piles of other pictures to which I'm determined to bring some sort of order, and failing miserably.

Anyway, Dad's letting me hold on to these albums for a while as I'm the one most likely to scan and share them, so here we go. As I was flipping through the album I came across this great picture. A little while later Grandma Elsie was flipping through the album and had the exact same reaction:

The twin on the left, looks just like his grandson does now, or more clearly, little Matt looks just like his grandpa Ron. The only difference is age as according to the back of the picture, Ron and Don were 32 months when it was taken :-). I'll try and get a good picture of Matthew's coy/shy/silly face this weekend so you all can judge for yourselves.

As I've probably noted before, the problem with many of these pics is that they are written in Slovenian. Google Translate helped me with this photo, but there's still a few hiccups.

Basically, what I got is that they lived a ways from Zblije Quarter but somewhere where the picture is marked is where their house would have been. Now, if only the writer would have indicated whose house we're talking about. Maybe it's this one:

On the back in a similar style of cursive to the previous card:

"This is my notive(?) house in which you often go and in this house live my mother." - Poldi

Under this, in something closer to my grandma Jennie's handwriting but probably her mother's (Jennie Setina Majdic) it read:

"my aunt house / Poldi my cousin was born here. I use to play there"

And though I'm not certain this was also in front of the same house, there's something about our family lineage and proud pictures of dead pigs:

According to Google, here's a rough translation of the back:

And on the back of the picture below with oh, 6 family members, is only the text "toje Trine(?) Setina rojen l. 1866" and the last 3 words translate to "born in 1866". Then it lists the place it was taken very thoroughly as:

And then there was this next photo which was taken in Pittsburgh, Kansas (which should theoretically limit the number of people it could be) and printed as a postcard. On the back it reads:

I'm assuming J.S is Jennie Setina signing the card but the google translation of the Slovenian I could make out is "Here you have a greeting engagement Yañez"

And here's a photo I just adore. On the back it reads "Mare in Marje Setina" and was taken in 1955. I originally thought it might be my great, great grandmother (Marija Vhrhovnik Setina) and her oldest daughter, but the dates just don't make sense. So, my next guess is the older woman is Mary Setina (married Cuder), grandma Jennie's aunt. She would have been around 33 when the picture was taken. Based on another photo in the book, that is her daughter and she also had a son.

And finally, a picture just because baby bath pics are super cute and I have no idea who this is :-) Based on the fact it's in color, I'd guess it's one of Dad's cousins. Uncle Julius and Uncle Jerry only had boys and Uncle Jack only had girls. That leaves Uncle Bud or Grandma Jennie's families to claim this adorable pair. If it's Jennie's family I'd guess that's maybe Sharon and Ron but I'm not so certain it couldn't be a set of cousins . . . and then I'm back to not having a clue :-)
