Here are a few pics of Sug (short for Sugar), the ewe we borrowed a few weeks ago to keep Baldwin company. Sug had her lambs one really cold night and lost both sheep. Though she had stopped producing milk by the time Baldwin was born, she's been a good surrogate . . . we think. Baldwin seems to have adapted fine and she's doing pretty well. She was one of our cousin's 4-H sheep, so she's really sweet and likes the be scratched and petted. For better or worse, she also likes to stand on our rickety fence, so hopefully the fence will hold out. Baldwin learned to jump up on the fence, real quick as well. Though Sug liked to push Baldwin around the first few days, they both seem to be doing fine.
Note the the new white spot on Baldwin's head. It's not a birthmark or anything, but dried milk from where he likes to pull the nipple off the bottle, thus coating himself in milk. Thank goodness it's weaning time fairly soon!Monday, February 18, 2008
