Meet the newest of new Watsons. He doesn't have a name yet (though we'll take suggestions!), but on Sunday we bought a Holstein steer.
James went to the arena so he could be branded and then our family will keep him for us this winter. They'll get to use him to practice roping while we get used to a new baby in the house. Then next spring, we'll take the steers and put them out to pasture on our grass to eat as much as they want before it's time to become next year's steaks and burgers. It's really a win-win situation, especially if James and I learn to rope while we're at it. Here are some roping shots of my uncle and cousin:
And here's a shot of Don manning the brander. The arena doesn't have a calf table like was used at the last branding, so my guess was there were not enough extra hands to man the camera during the actual branding process : )
